When I think of HOme as a safe place, a common theme recurs…
On the morning of March 18th my wife and I were shaken awake by a 5.7 magnitude earthquake. It was strong enough to scare us, but mild enough to cause no damage to our home. This was Wednesday of the first week our kids were out of school due to the coronavirus. My responsibility as a physical and spiritual protector of my family was suddenly very real. One thing was for certain – we had each other and we had our Heavenly Father.
My work has long explored the idea of home. This exploration has weaved in and out of the comedy of suburbia, societal placement, and home as a haven from the outside world. When I think of the home as a safe place, a common theme recurs, which is the connection of our earthly home to our heavenly one. —Justin Wheatley, 2020
