Christmas Music

Some people experience a concert of music only once a year—I don’t judge; I follow soccer once every four years—and the concert they choose is the message of Christmas. No matter where you live, there is likely live Christmas music close by. LDS performers are busy the month of December. By the time the big day arrives, they likely celebrate it with a long nap and a sore throat.

This year, notable Christmas concerts and related tours include groups showcasing new holiday albums: Gentri, Lindsey Stirling, and Mat and Savanna Shaw, as well as annual favorites Kurt Bestor, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, Millennial Choirs and Orchestras, and One Voice Children’s Choir. Additional concerts among many include The Gibbons Family and Friends, Harriet Petherick Bushman, and a return of a Christmas musical by James Conlee, Star of Wonder. (To discover more about these concerts and tours, see our calendar, The Listings.)

In a typical LDS congregation, you are likely to see a mini-pageant or Christmas concert at church, as well. Performers will be front and center, of course, but as you are listening snug in your Christmas sweater, don’t forget to acknowledge the composers and arrangers whose work they are performing. —Glen Nelson (See The Listings for event descriptions and locations)
