Just One More
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Latter-day Saints excel at writing speculative fiction, both for adults and for younger readers. How refreshing it is, then, when a writer bushwhacks a trail toward national success in an entirely different genre. Annette Lyon is just such a pioneer.
She’s won a whopping nine Best of [Utah] State fiction medals (for contemporary fiction and romance) as well as a Whitney Award (for contemporary women’s fiction) and has been a USA Today bestseller. But a few years ago, Lyon set her sights on moving beyond regional publication and has never looked back. Her psychological thriller Just One More, due out from Scarlet Suspense (an imprint of Penzler Publishers) on March 21st, is the result.
“A librarian investigates her husband’s dark past and winds up dead. Now it’s up to her best friend to uncover the truth.” Two points of view—that of librarian Jenn and her best friend Becca—and two different timelines alternate in a twisty story full of rabbit holes and false trails. Though the novel is not at all overtly LDS, Lyon’s faith shines through the dark story, with themes of justice, motherhood, friendship, and marriage giving the page-turner of a plot depth and heft. – Luisa Perkins
